Donation Appeal!

The key to meeting our vision in the future, which is “Palliative care for all in need in Africa” is education based on a true African palliative care services, adaptable to culture and economies.

This work has had to slow down due to the lack of scholarships for palliative care academic programmes from the Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care in Africa (IHPCA) and the Initiators programmer run by International Programmes.

Palliative care funds from external donors have reduced all over the world. The impact of the reduction is greatest felt in the Low and Middle Income countries where only the rich can access treatment for cancer. Here in Uganda more than 98% do not reach cancer treatment. 1/3 of countries in Africa do not have a radiotherapy machine. The suffering among the poor and vulnerable is increasing as donors reduce their support to this cause.

We are urgently asking for scholarships for degrees and for the Initiators courses to enable training in palliative care for frontline health workers at every level including the grassroots so that they can provide the much needed cancer and palliative care services.

Degrees and post graduate diplomas are ongoing and the costs in dollars are as follows:

Courses run in affiliation with Makerere University Duration Per year Full scholarship
Diploma in Palliative care 1 year 1,500 4,500
Bachelors Degree 3 years 1,800 5,400
PG Diploma 1 year 1,800 1,800

Please help us extend our vision year by year by assisting either with direct debits or with a donation towards a programme, for one course or for many.

The degrees and Diplomas are ongoing. The Initiators courses are twice a year at present.
